Garmin Bobcat For Mac
Posted:adminI am using the replacement software for Mapsource for Mac call Bobcat. This post has a couple purposes. The first is to get more people using Bobcat so that Garmin has more feedback.
The other is to start discussion about how it works or doesn't work.I am using Bobcat with Nuvi 760 on a older PPC G5 powermac. Bobcat seem to run well on the Mac, only crashed once in 10 days of use.It seems to be a little bit of Mapsource and POIloader put together. There are a couple of other new Garmin Mac programs as well.
MapInstall and MapManger the Bobcat program wants the Mapinstall program to be installed to work right.Lastly there is a Garmin Communicator Plugin for Mac that should let you link with Google Earth and other online mapping programs. I have been able to install it and the Garmin test website says that it is working but no luck working with Google Earth on my machine. Easy toy v2 0 keygen for mac. Everytime I tell Google Earth to connect to the GPS it unmounts the GPS but can not find it.Is anyone else working with Bobcat.
Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard). Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger). Stepmania os x for mac.
I am trying to understand Bobcats relationship with installing POI as it seem to load them differently the POIloader.Tbuechner. I can import a GPX file and then set all of the icon in Bobcat to what I want but when I send it to my Nuvi they all come out as flags.I use the Garmin Poi Loader 'Version 2.0.2.1 Beta' for the Nuvi and load csv files, custom icons, and mp3 alerts together. The locations show up in my 'Extras' folder on the Nuvi.I use Bobcat to verify the csv files I've created to make sure they are not in the middle of a lake. I've not done much exporting from Bobcat to the Nuvi. I'm not positive, but I believe when you export from Bobcat the locations are loaded into 'Favorites' on the Nuvi.
I apologize if this has been brought up before, but I am Mac-based, and don't want to have to jump through the hoops to run a PC emulator in order to use the Garmin website simulator. In this era when thousands of pilots are using iPads in the cockpit and for flight planning, I'm confused as to why a Mac compatible simulator isn't readily. I've been using Garmin GPS units on the Mac for a long time now. Too long actually. Started using them pre-Intel on G3, G4 and G5 via VPC (pre-USB on the GPS) and Guest-PC (post-USB on the GPS). I'm now running it via Parallels on an Intel Mac. And, if you want advice, don't waste your time with any of the Garmin-based Mac releases at this point.
Garmin® BaseCamp® provides an interface for viewing Garmin map products and managing geographic data. CrazyLostBoy, Watch out for 4.8.8 update in CatalinaMany people don't like Basecamp, but I have never found an alternative for computer based routing that have the database capabilities, and recently I have been looking hard.
I recently updated on Catalina to 4.8.8. That was a mistake.
The program now fails to export files to an internal volume, even to backup your library. It was working fine at 4.8.7. Support was responsive but unwilling to do anything about it to research a work around to save my data. Basically said that SW develpment could not tell me what their install routine does inside the OS so I could get files from a Time machine backup to revert to the old version and save my data. Also support admitted thay don't have a mac! The development staff does obviously and apparently tried to 'duplicate my problem', but never really answered my questions like if they had started at 4.8.7 and then did an update - I think only working with a fresh install (which would lose my data).
Support at one time came back to me with a 'fix' to do a backup, uninstall & re-install (first problem report was I coud not do a backup!). Then they said I should ask Apple about it.I'm now doing my own trials on another mac to try revert.
But DO NOT UPDATE to 4.8.8. Diggertfu, Disapointed - AgainI have been using Garmin devices for many years - BaseCamp for the past 10 years. I keep hoping Garmin will do an overhaul of this aged, unintuitive, overly complicated and frustrating application, but I am disappointed with each new release/update. (BTW, I spent 30 years as a product manager responsible for complex medical imaging devices, so I do feel I have a sense of what makes a decient UI.) I just updated from a ten year old iMac to a new iMac; 4.2 GHz i7, 32 GB RAM, 3TB Fusion Drive - very fast machine. But, BaseCamp is still about as slow as it was on my ten year old iMac. Within the first 15 minutes of use BC crashed four times. Seems to have become a bit more stable now, however I have not tried to connect a Garmin device and upload routes.
Ironically, I did not receive any notice on the earlier version of BC (4.2.2) that an update was available, even after selecting Check for Updates. The 4.2.2 version was completely unstable on the new iMac, so after a web search I found out there had been several updates since 4.2.2. Garmin folks, you have to get it together Please. You know I’m not the only one who is frustrated. YouTuber2015, Crashed 13 times within 30 mins. This last update really messed Basecamp up, bad.
I was excited to see that it had been updated to 64-bit so it wouldn't be broken in a future macOS update, but that doesn't seem to matter as this update makes sure that the app has a 30% or greater failure rate when trying to move or edit waypoints. The only reason I still use Basecamp was because of the trip planner and the fact that I could sync it to my GPS. That way, when I take those 'off the beaten path' journeys, I wouldn't have to carry around and look at paper turn-by-turn navigation while driving.Overall, I'm very disappointed. To add to my furstration, the maps have an issue with the new I-11 bypass in Nevada and won't route you over them because the connection to the old road wasn't mapped. Even Apple Maps knows the new interchange.
